Common questions
My items are not syncing to my other device
Check the bottom of the sidebar. Hoidur says there whether it is synced, syncing, or keeping data on that device alone.
If it says sync needs Hoidur Plus, the purchase has not reached that device yet. Open Settings → iCloud on an Apple device, or Settings → Google Drive on Android, and use Restore Purchases. Otherwise, check that you are signed in — to iCloud on Apple devices, or to your Google Account on Android — on both devices.
Will my iPhone vault sync with my Android phone?
Not yet. Hoidur on Apple devices syncs through iCloud, and Hoidur on Android syncs through Google Drive. They are separate vaults with separate master passwords, and they do not talk to each other.
You can move a vault from one to the other: export it from the first device and open the file on the second. Both apps write and read the same file. It is a one-time move, not ongoing sync.
I bought Hoidur Plus on my iPhone. Do I get it on Android?
No, and we would rather you knew before you paid. The App Store and Google Play are separate shops with separate purchases, and neither can see what you bought in the other. Buying on one platform covers every device you own on that platform, and nothing on the other.
I bought it on my iPhone. Do I pay again on my Mac?
No. Hoidur is one app across Mac, iPad and iPhone, so the purchase follows your Apple Account. If a device does not pick it up, open Settings → iCloud and use Restore Purchases. On Android the same is true of every Android device signed in to your Google Account.
I forgot my master password — can you unlock my vault?
We cannot. Your vault is encrypted with your master password on your own device, and we never receive it.
You can still get in with the account you are already signed in to. Hoidur keeps a recovery key in your iCloud Keychain on Apple devices, or with your Google Account on Android, where only your own devices can read it. On the lock screen, choose “Forgot master password?” and set a new one.
How do I back up my vault?
On a Mac, File → Export Vault…. On Android, Settings → Export Vault. Either writes everything, including attachments, to a single file.
That file is unencrypted, so treat it exactly as you would treat the passwords inside it. It is also the file that moves a vault between an Apple device and an Android one.
What is free, and what do I pay for?
The app is free on one device, with no limits — unlimited items, every template, attachments, export and Vault Health. There is no advertising of any kind.
Sync between your devices is a one-time purchase. It is not a subscription. On Apple devices it syncs through your own iCloud; on Android, through your own Google Drive. Either way the sync goes to storage that belongs to you, never to us.
Hoidur will not let me create a vault
Setup needs somewhere to keep your recovery key, and it refuses to create a vault without one — a vault that cannot be recovered is worse than no vault at all.
On an Apple device, turn on iCloud Keychain: Settings → your name → iCloud → Passwords & Keychain. On Android, sign in to your Google Account and set a screen lock. Then use “Check Again”.
